Gold Silk Jade

Shop gold silk jade beads for jewelry making — golden strands in flat hearts, matte flat hearts, faceted cubes, smooth rondelles, faceted spiral twists and flat faceted hexagons, sold by the strand.

Gold silk jade is quartzite, not jade. The Chinese name 金丝玉 (jinsi) belongs to a quartzite from the Hotan and West Kunlun regions of Xinjiang, China. At 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale it is harder than the serpentine sold as lemon or yellow jade, and it takes a bright polish. The name points to its golden color and the Silk Road, and the stone is recognized in Xinjiang's own commercial standards — but mineralogically it is quartz, not jade. True jade means only jadeite or nephrite.
