Zirconia Cross Charm: 18K Gold or White Gold Plated Pendant

Zirconia cross charm in 18K gold plated or 18K white gold plated brass, set with princess-cut cubic zirconia in green, pink, purple, red, orange and yellow running down the centre and out along the arms, framed by a border of clear pave stones. The setting is open-backed, so the coloured stones stay visible from behind and light carries straight through them. A flat bail sits at the top, wide enough to take a chain or a jump ring without a connector.

What's the difference between gold filled and gold plated? Gold filled has a thick layer of gold mechanically bonded to a base metal, usually around 5% of the item weight. Gold plated has a layer of gold applied over the base metal — these are brass with a real 18K plated finish. How long a plated finish lasts depends on how heavy the plating is: a heavy plating wears far longer than a thin flash coat. Either way, keep the piece away from chemicals, perfume and water to protect the finish.

Which finish should I choose? Both are the same casting and the same stones — only the plating differs. The 18K gold plated version reads warm and picks up the red, orange and yellow stones; the 18K white gold plated version reads cool and lets the green and purple stones come forward.
